Step 1 - Making the crater
Making the crater is fairly simple. First choose the Raise/Lower Tool. Then make the Brush Radius large, depending on how large you want your crater. The next step, is to make a hill using the Raise/Lower Tool. Keep it so low that you can see the top of the hill. Now, reduce the speed in the Raise/Lower Tool's toolbar, at the bottom of the screen. Do not change the the Brush Radius. Now rigth click on the top of the hill. As the hill gets under the surface, and Voila, you have a crater.
Step 2 - Painting the crater
Now you have got a crater, it's time to paint it. That is done best with the Sonora paint. Use that with the most rocks on the paint, on the sides of the crater, and the more "plain" brushes to the bottom of the crater.
Step 3 - Eyecandy?
Using eyecandy assiociated with craters is hard to deal out with. Only a few objects fits well, and usually, they only do it a the top of the sides. But i have found the most common to use together with craters:
The animal skull from PROP Skulls
The rocks from Underbrush Texas
The ground rocks from SPC Aztec Props
The rocks from PROP Underbrush Desert
All fit in well.
Tips and more
The crater fits in best with the Sonora terrain, and because of that, it is almost only usable in Texas, Sonora and Great Plains inspired areas. Use SPC Path Block 1x1, 1x2, or 1x4 to make the crater unwalkable, if that is necessary.
