Placing Forests

From AgeofWiki

You will have trees in your scenario no matter what. They add very nicely to the map and are good eye-candy too. So here I will show you some examples of forests and how I placed them, just like in the Terrain mixing section.

Palm Forest

Palms will mainly be appearing in the desert maps so the main terrain I use is sand terrain. Below is an example of one. Over here I selected Palm Forest from the forest tool and at size one laid down trees at some distance. I added some Oak/Savannah trees to it too for some variety. For the terrain, I put down SandA as default. On that I mainly added PalmForestFloor terrain with some Egyptian Cliff terrain and other Sand terrains (as done in terrain mixing article).

Oak Forest

Oak Forests are most common in the maps from my experience. In AoM two types of Oak trees are available - normal Oak trees and Autumn Oak Trees. Below is an example of mixed Oak Forest. For this too, I laid down first Oak Trees at 1 size brush at some distance. Then I laid in between them some Autumn Oak trees and some Savannah/Pine trees. For the terrain GrassA was default, on which I added OakForestFloor terrain. Apart from that some GrassDirt25 terrain, GrassB terrain was also used for a good effect.

Pine Forest

The third major type of forest in my opinion is the Pine Forest dominant on snow maps. AoM can allow pine forests for plain or snow maps with both types of pines available. Over I have demonstrated a Snow Pine dominant forest with some plain ones. Once again I laid down trees at Brush Size 1. For the terrain, SnowA was default on which I added ForestFloorPine. Then some SnowB, and SnowGrass25, SnowGrass50 was added.

TIP : Laying down forests with Brush Size 1 is useful because that way you get more variety and there is some distance between trees.
