Credit and respects go to Kumar Shah for originally discovering this trick.

In the olden days of the AOM preview Beta, 200 or so lucky people were already expiramenting with the Age of Mythology scenario editor.
Although the editor had a few units, terrains, and features missing, there was still a large portion to play around. In Mid October, the first major scenario breakthroughs had been discovered.
Among them was the Naval Units on Land trick. Kumar Shah had discovered this by placing a boat on water, then using Raise Elevation to get it up out of the water. Although it would mess up nearby elevation, it still got the trick done.
A short while after that discovery, someone else found an easier way to do this by using the Paint Land tool. This got the same effect done without messing up the elevation.
I also observed this trick and discovered my own way of doing it, Without messing up elevation, without painting new land, and without deleting water.
I used a simple Point and Click method, which surprised me that it works, and which evan lead to the discoverys of other major tricks through the editor.

  • Place down water
  • Place a boat, reed, or other object that can only go in water
  • Select the [Position(move) Object tool|Position object]
  • Click on the water object, and Drag it out of the water
  • Position it in the desired location of your map, using Position Object once more

You can also place land units on water using the same scheme. Click on the unit, and "drag" it into the water using the position object tool.

Heres an example of what you can create using this trick (overlapping trick also used to place the foundations)
