Basic Use Of Tool
This tool is used to paint bodies of standing water onto a map. There are many different types of Water to choose from, each with its own "physics" properties: turbidity, color/tint, surface reflectivity, choppiness, etc. Each Watertype also comes with a set of lakebed/seafloor and shoreline terrains. To paint water, pick a type at right, and it will show up as the featured type at left. Paint onto the land the same way you would a terrain, by clicking and dragging.
Advanced Use Of Tool
When "Do not change type" is selected as you paint the water onto the map, if you go over a different water type, it will not change that type. If you mix certain Water paint masks together, you can get interesting effects as you change the water surroundings like you do when using the River tool.
Using Water Tool next to a pre-existing River will permanently change the water type of the River to a non-River water type. Later, if you select the River using Edit water tool, it will show the Lakes and Oceans palette, NOT the Rivers palette. You can use this to create new and interesting effects using Rivers and non-River water types.
Using the Edit water tool will add Gaia objects around the selected water area and improve its appearance.
